Widespread and conscious adoption of the MES

Uniform aimed to promote uniform and structured use of the MES system by all actors involved in production processes, from line operators to technical employees. The goal was to overcome initial barriers – often linked to resistance to change or a perception of complexity of the tool – by promoting a shared digital culture. Only through widespread and conscious adoption of the system would it be possible to fully exploit the potential of the MES and collect significant data at all levels of the organization.

Targeted, continuous and operational training

To ensure effective use of the MES in daily life, Uniform recognized the need to invest in a practical and personalized training path. It was not just a matter of transmitting technical knowledge, but of building real operational skills, capable of responding to the specific needs of the various corporate functions. The goal was to make each user autonomous and confident in using the system, actively contributing to the continuous improvement of processes.

Data reliability for strategic performance monitoring

One of the main drivers of the project was the need to obtain reliable, structured and easily interpretable data, capable of feeding fundamental indicators such as OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness). Uniform intended to transform the MES into a strategic tool, capable not only of collecting information, but of returning concrete insights for monitoring productivity, identifying inefficiencies and guiding business decisions at all levels.

The solution

due-lavoratori-acciaio-nel-lavoro-industriale-edile

To support Uniform in its digital transformation journey, AzzurroDigitale has introduced the figure of the Digital Change Agent (DCA), a professional specialized in managing change in the industrial and digital fields. The DCA has adopted a practical and concrete approach, based on continuous interaction with people and direct observation of production processes.

From the beginning, the DCA has been inserted into the operational context of Uniform, supporting the teams in the factory on a daily basis, listening to the operators and fully understanding the real dynamics of work. This on-the-ground approach has allowed us to obtain a clear and shared vision of the existing critical issues and the potential for improvement.

In particular, the work carried out has allowed us to:

  • Identify precisely the functional gaps of the MES system and the practical difficulties encountered by users in daily use, often linked to an unintuitive interface or poor adherence to real operating logic.

  • Develop a series of structured change requests, containing targeted modification proposals to improve the effectiveness of the MES and other connected digital systems, thus increasing the value of the collected data and their usability.

  • Build a shared and sustainable action plan, in which activities were divided by priority and phases, actively involving the company management, department heads and all strategic stakeholders. This has fostered internal alignment and greater cohesion in the transformation path.

  • Start drafting detailed technical specifications, which are essential for the dialogue with the MES supplier and for the development of the necessary customizations. The specifications were designed to respond to the real needs that emerged in the field, with the aim of guaranteeing a system that is increasingly in line with Uniform's production processes.

Thanks to this pragmatic and participatory approach, Uniform was able to face the change with greater awareness, laying the foundations for a more effective and widespread use of the MES system.

The results

The intervention brought concrete and measurable results, both from a technical and cultural point of view:

  • Improved usability and widespread adoption of MES thanks to targeted training and continuous support.

  • More structured and digitalized production processes, with reliable data to support decisions.

  • Active involvement of the entire organization, from management to line operators, which has allowed a real operational transformation.

  • Valorization of collected data, now more precise and useful for performance analysis, in particular for the calculation of OEE.

This project has shown that technology alone is not enough. Success comes from the union of effective digital tools and a guide capable of promoting change within the organization. Thanks to the support of the Digital Change Agent, Uniform has transformed a technical implementation into a concrete digital growth path.
